In SD’s opinion – and we agree, the January blues are rather overrated, having spent 3 weeks on the Atkins diet, it’s time to rip up that gym membership, hop off that wagon again and head to the Horse & Groom for a guaranteed January blues buster of a night. Their special guest is none other than Hot Toddy.
Get your shakin’ asses down there.
Paper Recordings chum and mad professor Rune Lindbaek has found a mix from back in the day so GET IT HERE
I’ll let him explain!
I almost never make mixtapes but I made this one to my very good friend DJ Robin Jackson on a DAT in the legendary hot summer of 1997. We both had completely, utterly forgotten about this until it resurfaced tonight!
It’s a collection of some of the biggest tunes for me at that time, semi-sloppy and hazy ‘white widow’ mixed in the first take, containing a healty dose of Harvey, Idjuts and friends, Those Norwegians and my first solo 12″, that I often played at places like Skansen, Jazid and Headon etc. in Oslo but also when guesting Sankys Soap and Roundhouse in Manchester – and Plastic People in London. These kind of tunes was also the basis for Klubb Kebabb (1999-2001).
I’m really glad Robin found this mixtape. Please push in the loudness button and play it loud!!

Flash Atkins has been busy holed up in his camper van brewing cider and smoking dried banana skins. Another feather to stick in his cape is winning the Laneside Farm Summer Fete Arm Wrestling Championship in Hebden Bridge, but I’m not sure it can be said that it was won fair and square as his opponents didn’t have the use of superpowers.
The man with the dirty cape is out on the road DJing and has put together a live show, The Flash Atkins Experience. Expect breakdancing, sound manipulation, lasers, guitars, bongos, big bass, Tim and Tom from Crazy P and DATG plus of course plenty of Flash Atkins D.I.S.C.O. music.
